Tooth Extractions

Types of Tooth Extractions

There are two primary types of tooth extractions, simple and surgical.

During a simple tooth extraction, the dentist will use forceps to remove the tooth completely.  In more complicated cases the tooth may be removed in pieces for your comfort.

A simple extraction is performed under local anesthesia.

Surgical tooth extractions are performed by the dental surgeon in cases where a simple extraction is not possible.

They are generally performed under general anesthesia.

Are Tooth Extractions Painful?

Tooth extractions will help you get  out of pain.

Usually, a tooth extraction is a completely painless procedure.

You’re completely numb, so there’s no pain during the procedure, only some pressure is felt.

Contrary to popular belief dentists do not actually “pull teeth.”

The tooth is gently nudged with pressure, the ligaments holding the tooth in place give up and the tooth comes out automatically.
